Personal Protective Equipment in a Time of Coronavirus

In a perfect world, we wouldn’t have the coronavirus. Or at the very least we would have protective personal equipment (PPE) for everyone who needed it to protect them from COVID-19. This is particularly true for our health care workers, first responders, etc. Listed below is a collection of materials and links for those interested in PPE. We know FDA approved materials are probably better than most homegrown materials. Having said that, homegrown materials are probably better than nothing at all. Please contact me (rferdig @ kent DOT edu) to add more to this list.
Please note: these links and materials are not mine. I do not guarantee these, nor do I suggest these meet medical standards. You are at your own risk for using these materials, as shared by the producers of this content. All materials, particularly face masks, require scientific testing (e.g., fit tests). I am simply posting links to other people’s materials to support anyone interested in this call to action. See the legal disclaimer below.

- Perhaps the most exciting news to come out of this front recently was the announcement that University of Florida doctors had discovered that using Halyard H600 was useful for sewn masks that seem to do as well as (if not better than) n95 masks. These Halyard H600 inserts could be made into their own masks or theoretically also used in 3d printed masks OR in hand sewn masks with pockets.
